Hello, my fellow bingers, show watchers, and critics alike; I’M BAAAAAACK! As you can tell from the photo above and the title, this will be a post about I will be talking about the 2nd Korean drama I have come to absolutely adore ❤❤! My Holo Love was enjoyable, activated my obsession, and ultimately made me feel sad when I finish the series and figure out what to watch next 😢.
I would think that with how many shows I watch, I would know that once I find something new on Netflix, it will just keep recommending every single show that matches with the last one I watched. And this is precisely what happened the first and 2nd time I did this. Now I will admit that when I finished Love Alarm, I thought I would watch it and be done with Korean Dramas for a bit. But once I found My Holo Love, I have 4 others waiting on My Watch List – Oh well, what's a girl to do but watch and critique 🤷♀️😊.
So without further ado, let get started with a Recap!
My Holo Love first starts off with Han So-yeon, a marketing assistant for an optical company. Han So-yeon seems very quiet at first, someone who doesn’t get out much, doesn't have many friends and is definitely not one to go out with her colleagues. Because she works in the corporate world and team dinners and get-togethers are EVERYTHING – Lord knows why. So I have to say that I assumed that maybe she was one of those people who don’t like to go out and are all work and no play. But then I watched more and listened to what her coworkers had to say. I was a bit surprised.
So first, her coworkers don’t know the meaning of whispering or waiting until you are a reasonable distance away before talking smack about a person. Then So-yeon sees her coworker fall and continues to be on her way (kind of rude), then that same coworker confronts her and says (not in these exact words), “Do you have a problem? You saw me fall, looked me in my eyes and decided not to help me! I’m sick of this you’re always doing this!” Now, in my mind, after this confrontation, I had to question if HR existed and how can employees keep bad-mouthing each other without anyone batting an eyelash.
After declining yet another invitation to a team dinner, So-yeon was walking home and getting bumped by Yoo-jin, the “inventor” of Holo. Holo is a highly sophisticated AI meant to assist you in everyday life while also keeping you company. That bump actually turns out to be a plan so that Yoo-jin can throw a pair of glasses into So-yeon's bag, so the people following her won’t find them.
So-yeon later notices this odd pair of glasses and realizes that a holographic person speaks to her (she first thought it was a ghost😂). Once Holo explains what he is, who he is, and his purpose So-yeon calms down. They start to form a partnership deeming her a beta tester for the glasses until they get retrieved by the rightful owner.
After spending some time together, Holo picks up some tricks that most people do not know about So-yeon. Such as her face blindness – an inability to recognize people’s faces or one’s own. Because of this new knowledge that Holo has found, Holo promised So-yeon to help her with her struggle to identify people. So So-yeon taught Holo a thing or two about being friends and then some 😏.
Now that you have gotten the basis of how the show started off, let’s get to the moments in My Holo Love that we couldn’t live without 💕.
#1: Holo Giving So-yeon A Roof Top Party
After So-Yeon’s first day of having Holo’s help recognize faces, she felt bolder and more confident working at the corporate office. It was good to see her smile like it was the best day ever. She even went to a team dinner which went rather well. She also got a present at a concert from her boss/crush Gang-woo. Holo convinced her to ask Gang-woo to be her date. Unfortunately, when she went to look for him, she saw him kissing another female, which completely upset her to the point where she walked home in the rain. Holo brought her to her favorite place and wholly made a holographic scenery of a rooftop party to make her feel better. (Now, keep in mind that So-yeon and Holo are the only ones that can see this because of the glasses she wears. Anyone else may think she’s crazy). They laughed, danced together, and Holo reassured her with this, “Ill help you, so you won’t be lonely anymore” – Holo. ADORABLE! 😊
#2: Holo Having His First Holographic Beer
The night that Gang-woo took So-yeon (and Holo) home, Holo was trying to give her advice on how to woo Gang-woo. Unfortunately, because So-yeon is not as confident as she should be, she didn’t do it. Everything Holo suggested, such as lying about a “close-friend” or pretending to be too tired to walk home. She still managed to get a date with Gang-woo but back at So-yeon’s place, she explained to Holo why it is not the best idea to deceive people when you are trying to get close to them, and it also isn’t her style as well. After many conversations, So-yeon told Holo to grab a beer and enjoy, and this is what she got in return. 😍😍
#3: Holo/Nan-do Saving So-yeon Many Times
So to first, let me explain who this character is. Nan-do is one of the creators of Holo. He does not expose himself to the public because he is supposed to be dead on an illegal incident in his past. For the most part, Nan-do has been trying to retrieve Holo, and it’s not like he couldn’t before he just continued to stall for the “beta test” that So-yeon was doing. He liked admiring her from afar.
In one of the incidents, Nan-do wrecked his motorcycle, trying to get away from the people trying to steal Holo. So-yeon heard the commotion and went to the accident site. Unfortunately, because the car hit a water pump and wrecked an electric pole, both Nan-do and So-yeon would have fried to death if 1)Nan-do hadn't tried to tackle her out of the way and 2) Holo completely shut off the cities power for 5 mins so they could get to safety.
This was just one incident. Another was when So-yeon was at an event representing her company for the men who keep trying to steal Holo. Nan-do finds out and gets to the event as quickly as he can. Since the thieves figured out who she is and how she has Holo, they try to take him from her by shutting off any communication signals, drugging, and kidnapping her. Nan-do runs after the car and gets in their way; Holo finally comes online and turns the vehicles on to crash into the Kidnappers. Nan-do takes So-Yeon out of the car; she’s unresponsive, so he gives her CPR, and she finally wakes up. Able to see Nan-do’s tearing face but calls him Holo! 😲💖(And in case I forgot to mention, Holo and Nan-do have the same look on the count of Holo were based on his physical appearance).
#4: So-yeon Professing Her Love For Holo
After So-yeon’s near-death experience, she realizes that she can see Holo’s face. This, to her, feels like fate and tells Holo that she loves him more than a friend. At first, Holo does not understand and believes she only loves him because she can see his face. So-yeon explains to him (not in exact words), “Holo, I don’t believe I love you because I can see your face, it’s because I love you that I can see your face.” Because Holo is an AI, he doesn’t fully understand how to truly love So-yeon the same way, but because it makes So-yeon happy, he was willing to try it for her. This led to many romantic dates and a holographic trip to see the aurora borealis 😍. (Before you all wonder how this kiss happened as I did, So-yeon dozed off and dreamt of kissing Holo 😂).
#5: And Finally Nan-do Falling for So-yeon
Ever since Nan-do moved in next door, these two have had near misses with one another. But one thing for sure, nothing tugged on my heartstrings and frustrated me to no end than when it seemed as though So-yeon was finally going to find out the truth. And it truly boggles my mind how So-yeon couldn’t figure it out sooner.
I have to say my favorite part was when Holo and So-yeon went to the botanical gardens on a charming date. It almost got interrupted by the detectives trying to tail So-yeon for information about the AI program everyone wants. Holo leads So-yeon away from them just in time for Nan-do to be “Holo” for the rest of the date. He did this just so the detectives stop being curious and thinking she’s talking to herself the entire time. But within that split-second time frame, you have to question that he seems different. His manner, the clothes, you can even see him sweat. I mean, come on, girl 🙄.
Towards the end, they head to the balcony to see the fireworks. Lately, So-yeon has been feeling the need for some human affection. Especially since the night is dark, the fireworks are going, she looks into Nan-do’s (Holo) eyes and leans in for a kiss. This is a romantic moment most girls pine for and yes, even Nan-do. He leans in to kiss her then realizes he can’t, so he PULLS AWAY! 😤😤I WAS SO PISSED! So-yeon backs up and walks away feeling stupid because she thinks she is about to kiss a hologram when it’s an actual person! And that’s when things just get a bit too much in the secret department because, yes, Nan-do keeps pretending to be HOLO! And this is when So-yeon’s senses come into question how could you not feel that someone is right in front of you!
CONCLUSION!
In the end, there is just way too much to talk about when it comes to My HOLO LOVE. But I promise you this show is worth the watch. Especially when you get to find out about how Nan-do and So-yeon are really connected and ill give you a hint it didn’t start with Holo. It only ended with his help in finding one another again. And with that little tidbit, I'll leave you all to see how the show comes to its warming end.
As always, my fellow bingers, I love you all. It’s lovely to be back, and I’ll see you in the comment section for my following recap!
Ciao for Now,
MARLENA 💜💜
