Hello, my fellow bingers and show lovers alike. My name is Marlena, and welcome to the latest recap! This week’s blog post, I want to talk about a show I recently started watching, thanks to a coworker. Shout out to Nicky! My only regret is not watching it sooner but better late than never. If you couldn’t guess already what show that would be, it’s no other than Naruto Shonen Jump, the most popular anime during my childhood years that I had no reason to watch it and now I feel OBSESSED! If only you could hear me cheering the leaf village ninjas every time they win a battle 😭 (tears of joy).
While there are a few things in this show that I could bring up, like how the storyline went down or HOW RUDE THEY WERE TO NARUTO😤! Today I will talk about this disheartening open triangle Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke tend to have. Every time I think about it, it just becomes this odd mixture of emotion that involves confusion, annoyance, and a sprinkle of laughter. But before I jump too much into it, let’s do a small recap.
The anime show Naruto Shonin Jump consists of the main character, the leaf village ninja academy’s goofball. He’s taken the entrance Genin exam 3x and has failed every time because of a lack of concentration, practice, and help. An important fact to know about Naruto is that while people mostly ignore him, the reason is that he has a demon nine-tailed fox spirit within him. The fourth Hokage defeated the beast in battle by placing his chakra inside a human baby, to forever be locked away. During this battle that the Hokage went through, many leaf village ninja and ordinary villagers lost their lives. Most people won’t help or even possibly approach Naruto because of what’s inside him. They either are afraid or have anger passed down from a generation of those who lost a family member.
At first, Naruto does not know this secret until he gets tricked by Mizuki sensei; (senior ninja/teacher/or mentor) to steal a forbidden leaf scroll for evil purposes. Mizuki believes the nine-tailed fox and himself want the same bad things in life (what a fool 😒). Naruto does not want to hand it to him, and Iruka sensei intervenes to save Naruto’s life by taking a giant dagger to the back 😱! Iruka tells him that he believes in Naruto and his dreams, which Naruto has ever wanted to hear from anyone. Because of this belief, Naruto returns the favor. He saves Iruka sensei right back by performing the one Jutsu that he consistently failed at, shadow clone Jutsu, except this one is created tenfold. By mastering the multi shadow clone Jutsu, defeating Mizuki (trader), saving Iruka sensei, and returning the forbidden scroll, Naruto finally begins his journey of being a Genin (beginner level ninja) (so proud💜).
He is later put in a three Genin team, Sakura, Sasuke, himself, and Kakashi Sensei (mentor). Now, this is where things start. So, to simplify, Sasuke is a popular kid in school. All the girls think he’s cute, they want to date him, and the guys don’t see why all the girls are obsessed with him. As Naruto, Sasuke is an orphan, but his abilities are more focused and accurate, not to mention he thinks of Naruto as nothing but a screwup in the beginning. Then there’s Sakura. Sakura is a wise ninja who has excellent backup skills. I can’t say much about her fighting skills or ninja skills because I never see her use any; she does nothing but guards the mission’s primary objective in every mission, which is why she’s a good backup 😂. In any case, as you may have probably guessed, she is also super obsessed with Sasuke, who really couldn’t care about her because he also finds her a useless nuisance (he’s said this to her face, and someone had to😂).
As time goes on, they all become one team and care for each other to some degree, but I have to say it wasn’t until episode 22 of season 4 that something just pushed me over the edge 😤. The gang goes on a solo assignment without Kakashi Sensei to the Tea village to escort Idate, a runner, to the festival’s race. Naruto and Idate butt heads throughout this race, and Naruto is doing nothing but continuously saving him and his comrades (especially Sakura because he likes her – I don’t know why🙄). This first particular moment is what started the fuse for me, so Sakura almost drowns during an attack; Sasuke is swimming away; Naruto saves her and even walks on water to try and bring her to land to give her CPR. And what does she do! She holds on and hopes Sasuke will do it, and when she realizes it’s Naruto, she PUNCHES HIM! Now I don’t know about you, but if someone were constantly saving me from potential death, I would be grateful; I say I owe you one, a thank you, maybe dinner. You know common courtesy. BUT NOT SAKURA. NO MANNERS😤! And the funniest part is that during this race, Sakura even saves Sasuke from potentially falling to his death, and HE NEVER EVEN THANKS HER, NO MANNERS!
After this mission, I just continued to shake my head at the whole thing, but it wasn’t until the gang returned to their village that I just needed Naruto to find a new love interest because this was unacceptable. At the village, Sasuke decides to battle Naruto, and he realizes he isn’t strong enough by the dent Naruto made to the water tank, so he decided it was time to leave and find a new path, the path of EVIL! He wants to become a stronger version of himself to destroy his enemy (his brother). Sakura finds out he’s leaving and begs him to stay or TO TAKE HER WITH HIM BECAUSE SHE’S SO IN LOVE WITH HIM! 😒. First off, let’s talk about a few issues with this:
1. He doesn’t even acknowledge her confession of love for him during this moment.
2. She makes suggestions to get him alone with her, like a date, and he takes a pass every time.
3. He’s called her weak and annoying to her face.
4. HE’S NEVER SAVED YOU! Or SAID THANK YOU FOR THE SAVE!
Well, Sasuke ends up knocking her unconscious so he can keep walking, and she, later on, tells this information about where he’s going to a couple of Jonin that find her “sleeping” on a bench. Naruto and a few of his comrades are sent to find him and bring him back, but Sakura asks Naruto to bring Sasuke back to her before they leave. He sees how much she hurts by Sasuke being gone and tries to put on a brave face (because this hurts him) and promises he will 😭😭. I was mad at this moment because she almost didn’t acknowledge how asking this of Naruto would make him feel, knowing that she’s always known that Naruto has a crush on her from the thousands of times he has asked her out for Ramen. As Naruto leaves with the group, she FINALLY realizes that Naruto has always understood her more than anyone else. And I swear with everything, Naruto better get a hug or some gratification for getting Sasuke or even risking his life to do so because this is getting RIDICULOUS!
Phew! That was a lot but as always, bingers, please let me know what your thoughts are, whether it be on the show, the characters, the storyline, you saw it, and I want to know about it so LET’S START TALKING!
Ciao for now,
Marlena.
