The Netflix Anime Series Beastars Becomes The Furry Version of Romeo and Juliet We Can All Root For!

(Image via Google)

Hello, my fellow; I hope you all have your favorite snack and drink because it’s time for the latest recap, and I can’t wait to talk to all of you about the latest Anime series I have watched. I admit this was a random pick, but the Netflix algorithm has given me some good choices. The latest Netflix show that I have come to welcome, love, and cheer for is none other than Beastars. And oooooh, did this show have me eating popcorn all day and watching the whole season twice because it was just too dramatic in a bringing me back to high school kind of way where everything is the end of the world 😂😂. Oh, simpler times😭😭.

For those who have never heard, seen, or thought about watching this series, I would DEFINATELY call this one A MUST WATCH. And the reason being besides the fact that it has a super jazzy entrance that gives a Tim Burton animation feel to enjoy, a Melodramatic teen Romeo and Juliet to hope for, and Zootopia world to want to be a part of. It’s just the simple reason that IT’S SOOO GOOD! And I will talk about why 😉.

Let’s Talk about the characters and their relationships, shall we:

#1: Legoshi 🙄💕💕

First up is Legoshi, and let me explain the reason for my eye roll and hearts 😂. I love and appreciate Legoshi out of anyone in the show. He can be sweet, caring, never does anything for recognition, tries to be a good friend and carnivore. But the one thing that I do like about him is that he has a dark side. This dark side is basically shown as a dark being or spirit within him that he has tried to suppress for a very long time since childhood.

In the first episode, he smells a rabbit student that ignites his carnivore instinct, and his body gets taken over. He pounces and chases after her (she was not going to get far - sorry 😅). Now before you, all start thinking, "OMG, HE ATE HER!" NO! He almost did keyword ALMOST 😅.

Once Legoshi has her in his grasp, he notices how small she is, her breath, nervousness, and how soft she is. And that rabbit was none other than Haru. He quickly realizes what he’s doing and has a conversation with his tempting dark side. Thinking about it now makes me wonder if Haru was ever thinking, “who is he talking to?” - but probably not. Luckily Legoshi gets called by a schoolmate, and Haru can get free, but not without claw marks on her arm.

Because of their world, animals are supposed to “live in harmony,” it is frowned upon when animals eat each other. And since a schoolmate who was also Legoshi’s friend was consumed by a carnivore at school, it’s probably not the best idea to eat another student now or ever. I do have to say, though, Legoshi was pretty confused about what almost could have been that night, and things got even more confusing after that, but ill get to that later 😉.

#2: Haru 🤔🤔

This character perplexes me. And im going to explain why. So at the beginning of the first episode, I have to say Haru is not portrayed in the best light. First, her roommates harass her by throwing her mattress out of the window, then one of the herbivore students won’t help her because of a rumor that she’s known to be PERMISCIOUS. But the real kicker is when she tries to act all high in mighty like, "Yeah, I slept with him AND!" Like GRRL, come one now. If your going to dish it out like you do, you better be prepared to scrap up a few times, especially if you do anything to anyone else’s boyfriend. The entire time this was happening, I was just thinking to myself, HONEY! I think we need to have a talk 😂.

I have to say, though, when she explains why she lives her life the way she does, it really doesn’t make much sense to me, but you know what to each their own, live your life just be smart about it like I tell my friends.

So during the season, more towards the end, Haru finally gives her explanation. And her truth is that her whole life she’s been seen as small (not just because of her species), but out of her siblings, she is the smallest one, and her parents told her at a young age to be very careful because since they are the weakest link within the food chain, they are more likely to get eaten. Classic parenting advice just like look both ways before crossing the street and don’t talk to strangers.

For most of her life, everyone treated her as small and weak, which bothered her. But then one rabbit approached her and said, “I like you,” and kissed her. She noticed he wasn’t smiling, so in turn, she decided to sleep with him when they were in junior high and realized that this where the playing field was even. Where she was seen as an equal. After that, she just slept with whomever (primarily herbivores). She even tried to sleep with Legoshi to thank him for helping her, and Yes, it was a funny moment 😅.

Because Haru tends to do this, she lost most of her friends and built a bit of a reputation because of it, but it made no sense to me because you’re sleeping with guys just so it seems you’re equals, but in reality, your not. Most of the males within the show know of her; she does not hide this fact, yet they continue to go to her because they know what they could get in return for help. I just think that the ones who approach see her as something to take advantage of, which she doesn’t see.

#3: Louis 😶😶

First off, this deer got some serious issues. Im not saying I didn’t like this character s I’m just saying he acted better than everyone when he wasn’t. That‘s all 🤷‍♀️. Let me just cut to the chase; Louis is definitely a person with a dark past, saddened eyes, but overall hatred for all carnivores and apparently mediocre acting. But I guess that’s what happens when you are meant to be this strong person all the time, to never let anyone see you sweat, and to constantly be the face of a leader. And even though he shows all of this if anyone were to ever be with him in private, he always showed a rude, cold, and a bit crazy obsessive side of him. If I were to mention a few instances, it would be when:

  • He kicked a student out of the actor’s team from the drama club that he leads.

  • When he doesn’t look at Legoshi’s face, only his claws and tells him to stop showing them so much

  • And when he tells Legoshi to bite him so he can stop hiding the carnivore that he is

In truth, because of Louis’s past and how he grew up, it doesn’t surprise me that he has this hatred for carnivores. Even though it’s mainly because there are some personal things he needs to work through.

Within the show’s first season, Louis explains that he was raised in the black market where a carnivore gang steals children and keeps them until they are ready to be eaten. Louis was not the first or the last; he was just the only lucky one to make it out alive. a well-known red deer within the community, Ogma, comes into the black market one day and tries to pick out a youngling. Louis thinks that one of his bunkmates will get eaten, so he fights the wardens; Ogma is impressed and chooses Louis instead, not without testing Louis’s strength. On their way out, Ogma pushes Louis into a den of hungry carnivores to see what he does (it was messed up, I was scared for him😭😭). Louis tries to end his life instead of fighting back; he pulls him out in time and adopts him as his heir.

Even though Louis found a new home after growing up in that hell hole, some things can follow you for a lifetime, and I can’t say they truly go away even once you get your revenge on the kingpin for taking you by making him beg and killing him.

#4: Gohin 😍😍

Guys, I have a confession to make 😤😤. I Love this Panda right here, even though he might fight me for calling him Panda 😂😂. Even though Gohin comes about midway in the season, I like that he did because he ends up being the crazy role model that Legoshi needs.

Gohin is an animal with the physical strength of a bear but the look of a panda. He is a psychiatrist that tries to help other carnivores with their animalistic instincts. Growing up, most carnivores never really tasted another animal until they graduate school and “offically” become adults. Which is about when you go to the black market or discover its existence and buy meat. However, because they have this, for lack of a better word, cuisine later in life, it can be challenging for some to cope with not having it all the time or even having it for the first time in your life. Which is where Gohin comes in.

Gohin comes in to find his words, “poor saps,” in the alleyways in a lousy state of mind. They are either completely losing it, having a bad reaction to it, or are passed out. So he takes them, chains them so they don’t get violent, and makes them his patient of their own free will, of course. If they want the help, they take it. If not, let’s just say that why Gohin has so many scars. In truth, that’s actually how he met Legoshi.

#5: Legoshi x Gohin: Match Made in Heaven 😎🤝

After Legoshi and some of his drama club chums get lost in the city, they stumble upon the black market. Legoshi wants nothing to do with it but smells the meat, and he can’t take it, so he runs away and ends up passing out in the alleyway. The doctor thinks he couldn’t handle the meat, so he helps him out, and thats when Legoshi and Gohin did their little meet-cute 😊(adorbs).

Legoshi wakes up and tells him he doesn’t need help and accidentally confesses his feelings for Haru to him. Gohin tells him that it’s a bad idea and he could potentially devour her because he loves her, but that is apparently a risk Legoshi is willing to take. Since he would listen to Gohin the first time, Gohin gives Legoshi a rabbit porn magazine and tells him if he doesn’t get aroused by this, his feelings for her are strictly predatory; if he does, he might just have a shot of making “friendship” work. I guess there’s logic to it 😂.

Even though their meet was short, Gohin definitely impacted as a person Legoshi can trust. This was proven once Legoshi needed his help rescuing Haru from some Lion gangsters (epic battle)😎.

#6: Haru x Louis 🐰💕🦌

For most love triangles, you have to think that there’s always going to be a relationship you prefer over the other, but with this one, there was no question on who should be with whom. In the series, it is explained through bits and pieces one who these three know each other. Legoshi met Louis in the Drama club. Louis met Haru when she tried to help him with his injury. And Legoshi officially met Haru when he had to visit her garden for some flowers. This wasn’t one of those times like in My Holo Love or Love Alarm, where you have a side of who the main character should be. Because as you watch and listen to how they interact with each other and see where their feelings lie, it’s pretty clear that it should be Legoshi and Haru ALL THE WAY! And let me explain why.

During the series, you pick up minor signs of each one’s relationship. Haru and Louis have known each other the longest since they were first years (freshmen) and have been sleeping with one another ever since. However, you can clearly see that this partnership is nothing more than a simple agreement between the two. At least for Louis’s sake. You see, no one knows that they are friends, that they have some form of care for one another; in truth, they don’t even hang out together unless it’s short and in passing. When Haru is scared and alone or gets kidnapped, Louis never comes to her rescue, but Haru always hopes he will. He once told her that his father has found him a match for an arranged marriage, and even though Haru was sad, the only thing he could say was. “You knew all of this was going to happen eventually.” 🙄 (way to acknowledge her feelings, dude).

#7: Legoshi x Louis 🐺💥🦌

Before I even found out that Haru and Louis had a “special” friendship, I knew that the role model-ish relationship that Legoshi had with Louis would not last. Finding out that Haru and Louis were sleeping together was just the icing on the cake. Louis is an interesting character of them all, and not just because he has the darkest past of anyone within the show. But it was mainly because Louis could read Legoshi like a book and see who he was trying to hide. And I think with the way Legoshi tended to describe him, his walk, attitude, stance, and how he carried himself, it was like he wanted in a small way to be that confidant and hide well.

But as I said, this changed once he realized what his relationship with Haru truly was. Once Legoshi found out how they know each other, boy was he territorial 😶. Legoshi basically felt with his animalistic instinct that he wanted Haru and that Haru was his to claim. And even when he did not like or agree with Louis when he found out that Louis was in danger, he set aside his own wants and needs to help. After all this, it’s tough not to say damn it, Legoshi, why you have to be so good 😭😭. I mean:

  • You try to warn him that other carnivores are after him

  • You protect him even though he’s a jerk

  • And when Haru needs help, you go to your competitor and ask him for his assistance.

And this reason was the most interesting of them all because Haru, at this time, was kidnapped. Legoshi warns Louis, and all Louis can say is, “there’s nothing we can do.” and just gives up because he already made a deal with the mayor not to do anything and continue one business as usual. Once this happened, Legoshi gave the biggest punch to the face that any person on his team would enjoy seeing. And gave Louis his final warning, “If you wont help her I will but just remember HARU WILL BE MINE!” I F****cking live for it! 😎😍 (Team Legoshi all the way🐺)

#8: Legoshi x Haru 🐺💕🐰

But that all changes when Haru meets Legoshi. These two had a very awkward encounter when they first met. He tried to eat her, she tried to sleep with him, and neither one knew the other name🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ (no one bothered to ask, so rude). Legoshi literally called her rabbit until they actually had their 2nd conversation talk about progress 😂🥳. Legoshi eventually realizes that he enjoys Haru’s company and wants to be around her more because she makes him happy. It took her a minute, but once Haru realized that they could be friends and have fun together (which she hasn’t had in a while), she noticed that it was something she wanted to.

Haru mainly wanted to be friends with Legoshi and nothing more, but once she picked up on the things he did, she wanted him for good. Things Legoshi did right that Louis never did:

  • Helped her around the garden

  • Found ways to talk to her (as a friend)

  • Take it slow and never showed any intention of sleeping with her

  • Protected her from pesky girls and ignored the rumors

  • When there was a blackout searched for her to make sure she was okay

  • When she got kidnapped, actually rescue her!

I mean, come on, after a person does all that and only, in the end, cares about your well-being and could care less about what happens to themself, it makes you think like dammmm, their amazing maybe this could work it’s all im saying 🤷‍♀️😍.
